Drama in the work place

23 year-old from LA

I hooked up with a co-worker at an office party and, lucky for me, everyone found out. Now the weird looks are getting to be too much to deal with. All of the sudden, I’m the office skank!

Here's our take on the whole issue:
Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing. This may be one of those times. According to resident psychologist Joel Block, PhD, those “weird looks” are most likely a product of your self-consciousness. And, even if real, they’ll be yesterday’s news as soon as someone else does something silly. Most of us are too worried about our own spills to focus too long on others. As long as neither of you is the other one’s direct supervisor (and there isn’t any office policy in place preventing you), go for it. Just don’t overdo it on the after-work drinks and try not to subject anyone to your PDA.

What do you think?

I think you should go with your gut on this. Life is too short to miss out on a great hookup and a fun relationship. There are lots of jobs out there. At least there used to be.

Anytime you “hook-up” with a co-worker…you become the office skank…take it as a lesson learned.

So much of our lives are about our work. Hey, for many of us the line between work life and social life gets pretty blurred. But, I think you are learning the hard way not to mix business with pleasure.

If you are a Chinese tiger, who cares, as you don’t much care what people think anyway, blow off the looses who have nothing else to do and have your fun.

As the staff psychologist says, the weird looks are likely a product of your self-consciousness; it’s right there in your original post, “I’m the office skank!” Has anyone called you that but yourself?

That’s generally the way it works, but I love chris’s idea, embrace it! Who cares what people think. People will lose interest if they see you have no reservations about the way you live your life.

Wellllll, Im sure there was alcohol involved, no? At this point I guess you have to own it, the looks will fade away and everyone will be over it. Was he a good kisser at least?

Don’t mix business with pleasure!!!!

Hook up with someone else at the office. Keep it going…just dive into it…everyone loves an office skank.

You should try to keep work and life somewhat silo’d. Tough to see someone at work after a fling.

I’ve always had a rule of divide out work and life. That being don’t date or hook up with someone you work with, just seems to cause more issues.

I think you need to suck it up and deal with the weird looks. You have to pay to play occasionally!

I wouldnt worry about it. A lot of people this is jealousy or simply heard from someone that heard from someone that something happened. It will be gone in a week so while you might stress now, dont worry too much

The reality is that it happens all of the time. Pretty soon something else will take the attention away from you. If there’s something there with this guys- I say go after it, you never know where true love lies! Good luck!
