Online dating under cover

Grad student from Boulder

I met my current boyfriend on Yahoo! Personals and things have been going surprisingly well, so I’ve been talking him up to my friends. Only thing is, I left out the part about how we met because they’ve ripped on other people for not being able to find a guy the old fashioned way. How do I tell them the truth?

Here's our take on the whole issue:
Not sure what’s going on over there in Colorado, but online dating has gone pretty mainstream in the rest of the world, so you shouldn’t spend your time worrying about that part. The bigger issue here is the lack of conviction in your decisions, according to relationship expert Dr Block. Telling them the truth is like walking, where you put one foot in front of the other. Only in this case, you put one word in front of the other. Unless you’re going to be living your life trying to manage other people’s views of you—which is a lousy way to live—just say it. Come on, it’s not as if you met him at a rehab group for sex addicts!

What do you think?

What others are saying

Tell a lie of omission. However you actually met for the first time in person, tell your friends thats how you met. If you met at a bar, say he came up to you in a bar. At a coffee shop— you get the idea. Just dont try to be cute with details. Truth is relative. Perception is reality.

Don’t be ashamed that you met your man over the Internet – it’s so commonplace now, the old stigma isn’t there much anymore! And if you really dig this guy, you should be thankful how you found him and it may encourage others to follow suit!

There are many more embarrassing places to have met than Yahoo!Personals: the men’s bathroom, an AA meeting, the champagne room at a local strip club, or jail come to mind…
If you share your love and reveal where you met, you might very well inspire others to take the same leap!

Just tell them, stay proud of your relationship and dont bother what people have to say about it
