Did Ryan Just Want His Green Card?

Isn’t it Ironic? Canadian-born Ryan Reynolds ditches his “Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place” persona and fellow Canadian Alanis Morissette for his new A-list life. It seems Ryan is movin’ on up, not only co-starring in a summer blockbuster (“The Proposal”) with Sandra Bullock but also married to a superstar, the NYC born and bred actress (and new Mango model) Scarlett Johansson. What’s so ironic in that, you ask?

Well, “The Proposal” plot is about a man being forced into marrying his she-devil boss in NYC and ditching his hometown sweetheart for the NYC succubus. Things with Scarlett moved pretty quickly; shortly after rumors started flying, she was sporting Ryan’s rock of an engagement ring in May 2008 and snuck up to Canada to get hitched at a quiet, picturesque and private wedding that September. So, at first glance, it appears we have a case of life imitating art.

Luckily, Ryan and Scarlett make a sexier couple than Brangelina. It’s like having all the good looks with no drama and no thirty-one flavor-of-the-month children (though rumors say they’re adopting, maybe they ARE the new Brangelina). Case in point, they’re super close friends with down-to-earth (and recent co-star) Sandra Bullock and mechanic man Jesse James. So their low-key lifestyle is a great way for them to stay happy and out of the “Hollywood Hell” that many stars go through when they let the paparazzi (and money) get to them.

According to their birth dates, their relationship is the kind you usually see depicted on the cover of those ridiculous romance novels with Fabio front and center, but these two are the real deal. This kind of physical attraction would be enough to get Ryan and Scarlett through any speed bumps that lie ahead (at least until their looks fade). But they also find creative ways to keep the romance going strong even when it’s tough to do. Oddly enough, Ryan’s the one who cracks the whip that initiates all this sappy stuff. Although Scarlett tends to take the more submissive role, she’s down for whatever he comes up with.

Not only does this make for a great combo when it comes to dating, but Ryan and Scarlett would also do pretty well for themselves as good friends and co-workers (do they need their own Mr. and Mrs. Smith movie?). Even though the couple went from dating to husband and wife at light-speed, Ryan and Scarlett have what it takes to stick it out: red-hot attraction, true love, humility… and a damned good sense of humor.
